WOODBURY - ? The deadline for the state and teachers union to agree on new teacher evaluations is today. Gov. Andrew Cuomo says if there is no agreement, he will implement his own program. The state wants 40 percent of a teacher?s rating based on students? standardized tests. The union however, wants 20 percent. Several reports this morning say a deal is close.

If a new teacher evaluation system is not approved, New York would lose almost $1 billion in federal aid.
