MINEOLA - Hundreds of Nassau County employees could be out of work as the deadline for a deal with unions approaches.
County Executive Ed Mangano (R-Nassau) is giving the workers' unions three more days to find $150 million in savings or workers will face layoffs. The amendment was passed 4-3 by the Rules Committee, but does allow the payments to be split with $75 million due by the end of this week.
The county executive's office says raising taxes is simply off the table and that no department is off the chopping block.
Both sides say they are still negotiating.
