RIVERHEAD - Four dead, mutilated kittens were found behind a brake service center on East Main Street in Riverhead on Tuesday.

Authorities say an employee at the shop was backing out a car when he saw what appeared to be a set of rags strewn across the property. When he got closer, he saw the kittens.

Police say they believe the kittens' bodies were dumped at the property because it's surrounded by a locked fence.

Suffolk County SPCA officers will be distributing flyers in the area. A $1,000 reward is being offered for anyone who provides information that leads to an arrest and conviction.
