Day care's license suspended after baby's death

LEVITTOWN - The license of the Levittown day care where a baby died earlier this week has been suspended pending an investigation into the incident. As News 12 Long Island reported Thursday, police say Karen Shriver, the owner of the day care center, found a 4-month-old boy that has been in her care cold and unresponsive more than an hour after she put him down for a nap.At this time, police are calling what happened a tragic accident. They are waiting for autopsy results to determine the cause of death. Neighbor Cindy Murphy says Shriver has been running the day care center for about 14 years, and the children in her care have always seemed happy. "It's a shame, but this could have happened to anybody," she says. State officials say Shriver's business has two violations for failing to do a background check on an employee.
