FARMINGVILLE - A Farmingville man is accused of scamming his neighbors by preying on their sense of charity.

Authorities say David Papik went door-to-door asking for money for a fundraising walk to benefit the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation. Papik allegedly pocketed the donations.

Police were tipped off to the alleged scheme after a neighbor who donated reported that she searched for the event online and discovered it didn’t exist.

Police say Papik has done this before. Back in 2010, he allegedly carried out a nearly identical scam, except that time he told neighbors the donations were for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

Papik is charged with scheming to defraud.
