WOODBURY - The state Public Service Commission has set a date for Suffolk County's new area code to be added to the existing area code.

The 934 prefix will go into effect on July 16, 2016. Residential, business and wireless customers requesting new service could receive the new area code instead of the current 631 prefix.

A break-in period begins Saturday, during which time Suffolk residents are being encouraged to dial all 10 digits instead of seven digits for calls within the county.
