RIVERHEAD - A Mastic man was sentenced Friday to life in prison without parole for the rape and murder of a Medford mother.
Dante Taylor, 21, was convicted of first-degree murder in the death of Sarah Goode.
Prosecutors said Dante Taylor met 21-year-old Sarah Goode on a deserted cul-de-sac in Medford, attacked her in her car, dragged her into the woods and raped and stabbed her more than 40 times.
During the trial, Taylor's defense attorney claimed that his client had consensual sex with Goode in the early hours of June 7, 2014, and that someone else attacked her where her car was found.
In tearful victim impact statements, Goode's mother Elizabeth said she hopes Sarah's 6-year old girl Jocelyn grows up before learning how her mother died. She told the court, "My granddaughter will never see her mother again."
Taylor refused to speak before being sentenced.
"Your punishment will be the maximum, the only appropriate punishment for the evil man that did this," said Judge John Collins. "You may make chalk marks on the cellblock and your walls, in the cage in which you will live, but it will have no significance."
Taylor's defense attorney said he plans to appeal.
