CEDARHURST - Officials say a 16-year-old boy is accused of burglarizing two Nassau County synagogues and breaking into a third house of worship in Brooklyn.

Police say 16-year-old Daniel Weiss and a friend, 16-year-old Avraham Moseson, broke into the Congregation Shaara Emuana in Cedarhurst back in August by pulling an air conditioning unit out of a window. The two allegedly stole $1,600 in cash and coins.

Moseson was arrested almost immediately, but police say Weiss remained free for a while.

Weiss was arrested on Monday after police say he broke into Aish Kodesh Synagogue in Woodmere early Saturday morning. Prosecutors say he snatched two sets of car keys and went for a joyride in one of the vehicles until it ran out gas.

At Weiss' arraignment today, prosecutors also accused him of sneaking into a Brooklyn synagogue last month.

The judge set Weiss' bond at $10,000, noting that he is just 16 years old but is already accused of felonies in two counties.

Weiss' older brother, Zevi, insists his sibling is innocent. He said his younger brother had permission to enter at least one of the synagogues, and denied that anything was stolen.
