DA Spota sends letters to Suffolk schools in wake of SAT scandal

Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota is asking the county's school districts to come forward with any information on possible SAT or ACT cheating. Spota

CENTEREACH - Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota is asking the county's school districts to come forward with any information on possible SAT or ACT cheating.

Spota sent out letters Monday to all of Suffolk County's school superintendents in an effort to prevent a cheating scandal like the one that broke out in Nassau, where 20 people are now facing charges.

Middle Country School Superintendent Roberta Gerold says she doesn't believe students in her district could afford to pay people to take college entrance exams for them.

Local parents say the district attorney's letter is a step in the right direction, but some students and school administrators say more should be done to get to the root cause of cheating, namely, the pressure to be perfect.

The district attorney's office says if it receives any tips about cheating in Suffolk schools, they will be thoroughly investigated.Nassau DA: 13 additional arrests in SAT cheating scandal
