WOODBURY - President Barack Obama's administration is coming under fire for a new mandate that requires employers with religious affiliations to provide birth control health coverage to workers.Churches and other houses of worship are exempt from the rule, but religious schools and hospitals would have to offer birth control coverage in their health plans, even when it runs counter to their beliefs. The mandate is sparking outrage from many religious groups. Some critics, including House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH), are accusing the president of overstepping constitutional boundaries
The requirement will take effect in mid-2013. Religious-affiliated employers who fail to provide the coverage could be fined $2,000 per employee per year, officials say.
