WOODBURY - Critics of a proposal designed to overhaul LIPA say the bill actually removes key oversight of the power authority.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo's bill proposes creating a new Public Service Commission (PSC) branch just for Long Island.

Under the bill, the PSC can't mandate LIPA to follow its recommendations, nor can it impose sanctions or penalties against LIPA or PSEG. It also eliminates attorney general approval of contracts.

The state Senate is expected to vote on the bill by the end of this session.
