County workers nervous of budget labor concessions

MINEOLA - Nassau County workers are nervous this morning, after the legislature passed the proposed $2.6 billion budget in which hundreds of workers could possibly lose their jobs come January.

The budget includes $150 million in labor concessions, which still needs to be approved by the unions. If the unions do not pass the concessions by the required Dec. 15 date, 700 workers will lose their jobs in January.

The budget also calls for no new tax hikes, but it does call for the closing of two county precincts, although which ones have yet to be chosen.

The county budget was approved last night in a vote across party lines, with all Democrats voting no and all Republicans voting yes.
