WOODBURY - Corrections officers today blamed Nassau Sheriff Michael Sposato for poor conditions at Nassau County Jail."Sheriff Sposato has reduced supervision inside the facility, creating dangerous and unsafe working conditions for all visitors, officers and inmates alike," says John Jaronczyk, president of the Sheriff Officers Association.The union representing the corrections officers says that since January of 2010, there have been five inmate suicides, a homicide and a health-related death at the jail.Sposato says the union should "be at the negotiation table protecting taxpayers and their own members."
