Coram man accused of DWI in crash with police cruiser

CENTRAL ISLIP - Police say a Coram man was driving drunk when he struck the side of a Suffolk County highway patrol car in Mount Sinai early this morning. According to investigators, 22-year-old Kevin Daly was driving on Route 25A from County Road 83 and was attempting to turn eastbound when he broadsided the cruiser just before 2 a.m. The officer's vehicle was going eastbound on 25A at the time of the accident.The officer was treated for minor injuries and released from Stony Brook University Medical Center. Daly was not injured in the collision.The 22-year-old faces DWI charges and multiple traffic and vehicle violations. Police say his blood-alcohol level was over the legal limit at the time of the crash. Daly also apparently has 13 prior arrests and seven convictions, none of them felonies.Daly is seen in his police mugshot with the words, "I'm not an alcoholic, I'm a drunk. Alcoholics go to meetings" across his shirt. During his arraignment today, Daly turned his questionable shirt inside out. His bail was set at $10,000.
