ISLIP - The family of a Marine from Coram has a lot to be thankful for this Thanksgiving: his return from a second tour of duty in the Middle East. Lance Cpl. William J. Fitzpatrick was greeted with a hero's welcome at MacArthur Airport this evening. More than 100 cheering people welcomed the 20-year-old back home. Family members say it's the first Thanksgiving they'll get to spend with Fitzpatrick in three years. Fitzpatrick was so overwhelmed that he didn't want to speak to the media, but his friends and family had plenty of wonderful things to say about him. Many said they were extremely proud of him, grateful for his service, and overjoyed to have him home safely.Fitzpatrick will be home for 10 days before he heads to his base in Norfolk, Virginia.
