HUNTINGTON - Police say a teen is in serious but stable condition after being shot in the chest outside his East Moriches home.

The incident happened yesterday afternoon on Inlet View Path in a waterfront community known as Baywoods.

Cops say Janet Berg was walking with her grandson when she stumbled upon the teen outside of a house.

Berg says the victim was lying on the ground and looked like he was in shock.

Police initially told News 12 Long Island that the teen is the one who called 911 after the shooting, telling emergency responders he had been robbed and the suspect opened fire on him.

However, today there are questions about that story after police say it is not clear what happened.

Suffolk County police searched for the shooter throughout the afternoon from the sky and on the ground with their K-9 unit.

The teen was air-lifted to Stony Brook University Hospital where he remains this morning.
