AMITYVILLE - A Nassau County police officer is in stable condition after a wild chase and crash on the Southern State Parkway yesterday.

Chopper 12 was over the scene in Amityville where the officer's patrol car was visibly damaged.

Officials say the chase began in Massapequa around noon yesterday.

According to police, an officer was called to the area after someone reported a suspicious car and saw two men switching a Pennsylvania license plate with a Florida plate on a gray Honda. The officer followed the car.

Cops say the car swerved from lane to lane then made an abrupt move near the Route 110 overpass.

The female officer hurt in the crash has not yet been identified. The men in the Honda are still on the loose. Anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-224-TIPS.
