Cops search for suspect in Hempstead attempted carjacking, shooting

The shooting took place at the corner of South Franklin and Allen Streets.

HEMPSTEAD - Police are investigating a shooting that occurred in Hempstead last night.

According to detectives, a 24-year-old male victim was in a car on the corner of Nassau Parkway and Allen Street when an unknown black male entered the vehicle.

Police say the suspect attempted to remove the vehicle’s keys but was unsuccessful after the victim put the car in gear. The suspect then displayed a handgun and fired, striking the victim in the right leg.

According to police, the suspect fled the scene on foot northbound on Nassau Parkway.

The victim was taken to the hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries. There is no description of the suspect.

Detectives are asking anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-224-TIPS.
