Cops search for driver who slammed SUV near Islip Town Hall

? Cops are searching for a driver who slammed an SUV into a retaining wall near Islip Town Hall.The incident happened just before 2 a.m.

ISLIP - ? Cops are searching for a driver who slammed an SUV into a retaining wall near Islip Town Hall.

The incident happened just before 2 a.m. on Main Street.

Cops say the driver was pulled over in North Babylon before the crash happened. The driver was stopped on Weeks Road, but sped away from police.

Cops say a short time later, police got a 911 call that someone had crashed in front of Islip Town Hall.

A witness at the scene says the man was injured but did not wait for help.

Town of Islip Supervisor Phil Nolan says the town will have to pay for the damage to the monument outside town hall.Police did not say why they originally pulled the driver over before the crash, or why he may have sped away.

So far no arrests have been made.
