Cops: Plainview mom charged in daughter's death

PLAINVIEW - A Plainview woman has been charged with manslaughter in the death of her 8-year-old daughter, according to authorities.

Prosecutors say Veronica Cirella, 30, deliberately gave her daughter, Julie, food that would cause her to suffer a fatal allergic reaction on Saturday. They say Cirella wrote a suicide night, saying that her daughter should die and then attempted to kill herself.

Officials are still awaiting official autopsy results, but say that the third-grade student had an allergy to peanuts. She also suffered from cerebral palsy and was bound to a wheelchair.

Police say Cirella is hospitalized at Nassau University Medical Center, where she was arraigned bedside.
