ATLANTIC BEACH - A former resident of Atlantic Beach was charged today with working as a psychologist for at least two years out of her home without a New York State license.

Prosecutors say 35-year-old Amora Rachelle, a retired school teacher, had been illegally offering advice, guidance and mental health services to patients from 2008-2010 and even fraudulently received more than $3,400 from an insurance company for services rendered.

Officials say Rachelle, who now lives in Los Angeles, had a psychology permit which only allowed her to practice under a licensed psychologist.

Dr. Eva Feindler, the director of clinical psychology at C.W. Post, says anyone looking for a licensed professional should go to the state's website for the Office of the Professions.

Rachelle has been charged with grand larceny and falsifying business records. She is being held on $10,000 bond.
