WEST BABYLON - Police say they arrested a man early this morning for driving the wrong way in West Babylon while drunk.
Cops say Bogdan Mychajlyszyn, 43, was driving westbound on the eastbound service road on Sunrise Highway.
Officers received a call about a car driving the wrong way and stopped Mychajlyszyn. No one was hurt.
Mychajlyszyn is the latest in a string of people accused of driving drunk and going the wrong way. Since November, 13 drivers have been arrested on Long Island.
"It's the drinking that's causing the problem, not the roadways," says Assistant Capt. Patrick Cuff, of the Suffolk County Police Department.
With New Year's Eve just around the corner, police say they will be closely monitoring local roadways for drunken drivers.
"We do have checkpoints planned and DWI enforcement planned throughout the weekend," Cuff says.
Mychajilyszyn was charged with driving while intoxicated and fleeing the scene of an accident.
