Cops: Man in custody after police chase ends in Suffolk

NORTH LINDENHURST - Suffolk police arrested a man for driving under the influence of drugs after he led police on a chase this morning in Lindenhurst.

Police responded to a 911 call reporting a suspicious man looking in windows at the Harding Avenue School in Lindenhurst around 10 a.m. According to police, the man identified himself to school officials as a town security guard and fled in a black Corvette.

Police responded to the scene and located the vehicle on East Shore Road. Police say the man refused to pull over and intentionally struck police cars as they pursued him. The pursuit ended on Colonial Road and Straight Path in Lindenhurst. A total of five police cars were struck, authorities say. Five police officers and one lieutenant were treated for minor injuries.

The driver of the Corvette, Joseph Ciambriello, 31, of Lindenhurst, was arrested and charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs and criminal mischief. Police say they're now trying to determine if Ciambriello tried to pull over other motorists this morning. One man, who didn't want to be named, says someone driving a black Corvette and fitting Ciambriello's description pulled him over and demanded he open up his trunk. The man claimed to be with the CIA, he says.To watch Chopper 12 video from over the scene, go to channel 612 on your iO digital cable box and select the 'iO Extra' tab.
