WESTBURY - A domestic violence case in Westbury turned violent after police say a man attacked an officer.

According to police, Gamaliel Nieves’ wife called police to report a domestic disturbance last night. Upon arrival, police say Nieves charged an officer, knocked him into a wall and tried to get his gun out.

The officers were able to restrain Nieves.

The injured officer was treated and released at the hospital.

Nieves is being charged with assault, attempted robbery and endangering the welfare of a child.
