LYNBROOK - Police discovered a heartbreaking scene when they were summoned to a North Lynbrook home this morning: an elderly woman was found dead of natural causes, and her husband had died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Sources have identified the couple as Camille Rye, 73, and 70-year-old Charles Lynton. Detectives say the couple had been married for 20 years.

Investigators say the woman's home health aide came to the home this morning, but could not get inside. She called a family member, who got someone to open the front door. Detectives say the person who entered the home realized something was wrong and called police.

News 12 Long Island has learned that Rye's daughter works for Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice. Rice was at the scene today, consoling the couple's relatives.
