Cops: Ammonium chloride found in unconscious toddler's bottle

LAWRENCE - Police say a young girl and her 45-year-old father were found unconscious in a car yesterday morning in Lawrence.

Investigators say they were called to the scene near Central Avenue at around 9:30 a.m. after a passerby found the two people. Cops say upon arrival, the 45-year-old Queens man and his daughter were found in respiratory distress.

The victims were transported by ambulance to a hospital where they are both listed in critical condition.

Police say further investigation by the Nassau County Police Department Haz-Mat revealed that the toddler?s bottle, which was recovered in the automobile, contained ?ammonium chloride,? commonly found in fire extinguishers.

In addition, cops say a pesticide known as ?Sevin? was found on the toddler?s car seat.

Police say they are investigating the incident as a possible murder-suicide. Cops say no substances were found in the vehicle that may cause a threat to the community. The investigation is ongoing.
