LONG BEACH - The City of Long Beach will soon start construction on its new boardwalk.

On Saturday morning at 11 a.m., thousands of Long Beach residents will gather for the groundbreaking.

Officials say the boardwalk will be stronger and built from tropical hardwood that will last up to 40 years.

Part of the boardwalk is expected to be ready this summer, but the $44 million project won't be completed until the fall.
