TERRYVILLE - A road construction project at one of Suffolk's most congested intersections is causing a lot of confusion and several accidents.

The state Department of Transportation is spending $25.6 million to redesign the intersection of routes 347 and 112 in Terryville.

Drivers who are heading west on Route 347 and want to turn south onto Route 112 now must make a left turn at Canal Road.

The confusion has led the Terryville Fire Department to respond to nine accidents, after drivers attempted to make illegal turns during the first week of the lane change. For those that miss the detour signs in the area, it's a mile trip in the wrong direction before an opportunity to turn around.

The state DOT has added extra signs in the area to help clear up the confusion. It says the intersection improvements should be completed this summer.
