MINEOLA - Nassau County Comptroller George Maragos announced today that the county ended 2011 with a more than $50 million budget gap. Maragos says the substantial deficit was created primarily by NIFA and the failure of the legislative minorities to approve $45 million in borrowing. He also says that the county could face a $45 million budget gap for this year if County Executive Mangano doesn't take action. Mangano says Democrats failed to provide the votes that were needed to assist the county in fiscal recovery. The Democrats also blame Mangano, saying that he failed to achieve the projected savings he promised.
