HICKSVILLE - New York Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli says LIPA was unprepared for storm restoration, citing a 2006 independent report for the Public Service Commission.

The report says LIPA cut its budgets for wire and pole maintenance, as well as tree trimming. It also said the utility lacked state oversight. It was also faulted for using antiquated equipment, including 25-year-old computers.

"Obviously, the point is really very clear," DiNapoli says. "Business needs to change at LIPA."

Local politicians, including Rep. Peter King (R-Seaford) and Rep. Steve Israel (D-Huntington), are asking the federal government to intervene and send more help.
