NEW HYDE PARK - The Cohen Children's Oncology Unit in New Hyde Park is using new bacteria-resistant scrubs to combat the spread of germs to at-risk patients.

The fabric acts as a protective barrier that repels all fluids and stops the spread of germs from hospital worker to patient.

Some in the hospital say the scrubs, which come in eight colors, are more fashionable than the old scrubs.

Willie Yip, whose daughter is going through her fourth round of chemotherapy at the hospital, says the germ-resistant scrubs give him piece of mind.

"If there's anything to help to prevent her getting sick or catching any germs, it's a good thing," he told News 12 Long Island.

The medical center says its entire staff will have the new scrubs next month.
