WOODBURY - Hillary Clinton's nomination as the Democratic Party's presidential candidate has made history.

The former secretary of state, New York senator and first lady is the first woman to be nominated for president of the United States by a major political party.

Victoria Claflin Woodhull became the first female to run for president as a candidate for the Equal Rights Party. Women could not even vote in the U.S. until 1920. It took until 1981 for a woman, Sandra Day O'Connor, to sit on the U.S. Supreme Court. Geraldine Ferraro and Sarah Palin were both nominated to run for vice president.

Personal politics aside, a number of women who spoke with News 12 say Clinton's nomination is a giant step forward for women in America and for young girls with big dreams.
