Classmates cheer on 'Idol' hopeful from Merrick

MERRICK - Classmates of a Merrick teen who is vying for a slot on "American Idol" held a viewing party tonight to watch their friend perform live and vote for him.

Robbie Rosen is regarded as one of the best singers this season on "American Idol," and his classmates at Calhoun High School couldn't agree more.

"When he sings, it's amazing," says junior Rebecca Friedman. "His voice is incredible."

Rosen, a junior, is singing in concert choir at his school. Sanford Sardo, the director of the program, says Rosen is the most grounded student he's ever met with a talent that seems to be bursting at the seams.

"I think Robbie will go incredibly far," Sardo says. "It wouldn't surprise me to see him win at all."

The students are excited to hear whether he made it when the results are announced during the show on Thursday at 8 p.m.
