WOODBURY - A Baldwin native became the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) middleweight champion last night in Las Vegas.

Chris Wiedman knocked out Anderson Silva in the third round of their bout to capture the title. The Long Islander was the underdog in the fight despite being undefeated in mixed martial arts.

With the victory, Wiedman improved his record to 10-0.
