HUNTINGTON - A child recently suffered a serious injury due to a new outdoor fitness center at Elwood Park in Huntington.

The boy severed a finger on the park’s elliptical machine about two weeks ago. The machine is now fenced off and off limits.

Parents are concerned for their children’s safety, and have suggested gating off the area. A town spokesman says a fence with a self-closing, self-latching gate will be built around the center.

The elliptical is being removed from the park. The town spokesman tells News 12 Long Island that the other equipment has been inspected and will remain at the fitness center.
