FARMINGVILLE - A Bay Shore man accused of murdering his girlfriend in Farmingville was arraigned on second-degree murder charges Tuesday in Central Islip.

Police say Charles Pray, 34, stabbed Monica Lino more than 20 times with a kitchen knife in her Farmingville home. According to prosecutors, Pray stole Lino's car after killing her and drove to Merrick, where he got into an accident and abandoned the car in a parking lot. He then went to Bay Shore and allegedly stole another car before he was caught in West Babylon.

Michael Senk, a volunteer firefighter in West Babylon, says he saw Pray in the car, parked backward on the road. Senk says he contacted police because Pray sounded drunk when he tried talking to him.

Pray's attorney, Steven Politi, says his client is innocent and was stabbed by Lino first. Lino's friends, who joined her family members in the courtroom Tuesday, say that is not possible since she had a broken leg and wrist at the time.
