(09/11/12) WASHINGTON - Across the country, ceremonies were held to mark the anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks. At 8:46 a.m., President Obama and first lady Michelle Obama observed the beginning of the attacks with a moment of silence at the White House.

The first lady then traveled to Virginia for the memorial ceremony at the Pentagon.Obama laid a wreath at the wall hit by a hijacked American Airlines flight. A total of 189 were killed in the Pentagon attack.This afternoon, President Obama will visit wounded soldiers and their families at Walter Reed Medical Center.
