GLEN HEAD - Police say a car burst into flames and slammed into a house in Glen Head early this morning. 

The incident took place on Glen Cove Avenue just after 1 a.m.

Officials say three fire departments responded to the scene.

A woman who was inside the home at the time of the accident tells News 12 she was sleeping in the living room when she smelt smoke and ran outside.

According to officials, the male driver of the vehicle is the only person who sustained injuries and is in the hospital. Sources say his injuries are very serious.

News 12 Long Island has learned the man is in police custody while he is recovering and charges are pending.

There is no word on what caused the driver to lose control.
