LINDENHURST - Homeowners in an area of Lindenhurst that was devastated by Hurricane Sandy have been victimized once again, this time by burglars.

At least six homes on East Bayview Avenue and Ocean Street were burglarized last week, News 12 Long Island has learned. The thieves stole money, jewelry and electronics.

Resident Lynn Taormina says burglars broke into one home through a side window and stole a safe. She says she believes professional crooks who know what to look for are behind the burglaries.

Residents in the area say they have filed police reports, but they would like to see more surveillance and officers patrolling the area.

Suffolk police say they are stepping up patrols in areas where families have been displaced due to damage.
