AQUEBOGUE - Some residents spent the night in an emergency shelter after a brush fire in the Manorville/Ridge area forced mandatory evacuations.
Residents from Wading River Manorville Road and Shultz Road (east) to Edwards Avenue from the Peconic River (north) to Grumman Boulevard were forced out of their homes last night.
The Suffolk County Red Cross opened a shelter at the Riverhead Senior Center on Shade Tree Lane in Aquebogue. The shelter is stocked with food, water and cots for 50 people.
The evacuation order remains in effect. Meanwhile, fire officials say the fire is contained, but still burning.
