WADING RIVER - More than 200 members of a Wading River civic group say they support Brookhaven Town's plan to stop the construction of a solar array on 350 acres of woods just west of the Shoreham Nuclear Power Plant.

The plan, proposed by a Florida solar company and National Grid, includes cutting down all the trees in the area.

Brookhaven's new solar code would not allow companies to cut down trees to build solar farms. It would also offer incentives to businesses that place solar panels on their roofs or in their parking lots.

When told about the new code that is expected to pass unanimously by the Town Board, the company building the solar array responded by saying, "The proposed Shoreham Solar project would generate clean, renewable energy and we look forward to working with local and state stakeholders on the project."
