Brentwood school board extends superintendent's $200K pay

BRENTWOOD - The Brentwood school board voted during last night's meeting to extend School Superintendent Joseph Bond's $200,000 contract through 2014.The new contract puts Bond above the $175,000 salary cap Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D-N.Y.) has proposed for school superintendents. School Board President George Talley admitted the contract extension was an end-run around the proposed cap meant to reward Bond for his impressive job performance. "We want stability in our district and we don't want Albany dictating what we are going to do," Tally says. The move angered some residents, considering the fact that the Brentwood School District is considering firing teachers and slashing programs. Also, some are questioning the timing of the contract extension since it was done at the end of last night's meeting and seemed rushed through. The school board insists that wasn't the case.
