BRENTWOOD - Officials have announced that the annual Brentwood Puerto Rican-Hispanic Day Parade has been canceled. Adelante of Suffolk County has organized the parade for the last 45 years, but members say dwindling sponsorship and budget cuts have led to its cancellation. After facing major budget cuts, the group says it decided to focus its resources on preserving community programs, which meant sacrificing the parade. The parade also supported Adelante's scholarship program, which has paid out more than 250,000 scholarships in the last 10 years. Group members say they hope to still have the funds to give out scholarships this year.
