RIDGE - While countless Long Island families prepared for the worst last Oct. 29, a husband and wife from Ridge were prepping for the best.

Brandi Jenkins gave birth to her daughter Skylar as Hurricane Sandy came ashore. On her way to Stony Brook University Hospital, she says she remembers high winds forcing trees to the ground.

The hospital had already lost electricity by the time Skylar arrived, but Jenkins says she wasn't fazed. In an odd twist of fate, her other child, 8-year-old Kenny Jr., happened to be born on the same day Hurricane Katrina struck New Orleans back in 2005.

"What are the odds," says Jenkins. "Another wonderful gift."
