CENTRAL ISLIP - The man accused in an alleged DWI crash that killed a registered nurse in Huntington Station will remain behind bars on $500,000 bond.

Police say Karen Holden, a registered nurse, died when Ryan Gurecki, 34, rear-ended her car at a red light on Jericho Turnpike in Huntington Station on June 26.

Her husband, who was driving at the time of the crash, and son were also injured.

Defense attorney Danial Sulvain asked the judge to lower his bond because prosecutors have not yet indicted him on any felony charges related to the crash. The judge refused.

Prosecutors say Gurecki's blood alcohol content was 0.13 at the time of the incident. They also say Gurecki admitted to having five beers before the crash.

Prosecutors say they hope to get a felony indictment from a grand jury in about a week.

Gurecki, a Lindenhurst resident, is scheduled to be back in court on July 25.

Gurecki has two prior alcohol-related charges, including a 2006 DWI conviction. In February, Gurecki was arrested for allegedly leaving the scene of an accident with injury.
