The Water Authority of Western Nassau County has issued a boil water advisory for seven communities after water sampling tests indicated bacteria may be present

WOODBURY - The Water Authority of Western Nassau County has issued a boil water advisory for seven communities after water sampling tests indicated bacteria may be present in the water.

The communities affected include Elmont, Floral Park, Franklin Square, Garden City, New Hyde Park, North Valley Stream and Stewart Manor.

Officials say that two separate tests conducted at different locations indicated the possible presence of bacteria, including E. coli.

The water authority says it will flush water mains and increase chlorine to aid in disinfection.

Officials ask that residents boil all water before use and discard any ice until the advisory is lifted.
