LONG BEACH - The body of missing Long Beach High School math teacher Danny Bobis was found off Sumatra Island in Indonesia, according to reports today.
Indonesian officials say fishermen spotted Bobis' body this morning.
Bobis and his wife, Rachel, were on a six-week surfing trip with friends in Southeast Asia. Last Sunday, the Long Beach teacher disappeared while riding the waves off Sumatra after apparently hitting another surfer's board.
Today, Bobis was remembered as a mentor figure in the Long Beach community and an all-around good person. He coached a local surf club and started the state's first surf team at Long Beach High School.
"Danny definitely lived his life to the fullest," says friend Sean Pearsall. "He did more in his 32 years than people three times his age."
Bobis and his wife were expected to return home Aug. 12. A benefit will be held for the Bobis family in September.
