Body found amid search for missing man in Manhasset Bay

PORT WASHINGTON - Rescue crews have discovered a body while searching for a man who was on a boat that capsized in Manhasset Bay early this morning.Police say at around 3:30 a.m., the missing man, his brother and two friends hopped on a Town of North Hempstead rowboat that was tied up to the dock and went for a joyride."One of them had stated that they had been drinking some beer out on the boat and that the boat capsized," says Chief Geoffrey Cole, of the Port Washington Fire Department. The four men fell into the water. Authorities say three of them managed to swim and climb onto nearby boats. Police say at around 10:30 a.m., they were spotted by a launch operator and taken to St. Francis Hospital, suffering from hypothermia.Officials believe the body that was discovered this afternoon at the bottom of the bay is that of the missing boater, although his identity is yet to be confirmed.
