Blackhawk military helicopter lands on Miller Place sod farm

No one was injured in the National Guard chopper's emergency landing, officials say. (February 6, 2013)

MILLER PLACE - A Blackhawk military helicopter made a precautionary landing on a sod farm in Miller Place today.

Military officials say a crew from the Army Aviation Support Facility at MacArthur Airport was on a post-maintenance test flight this afternoon. An access hatch at the front of the chopper came loose and struck the windshield, cracking it.

The pilot and co-pilot landed the helicopter on an empty field off of Miller Place-Yaphank Road. Repairs were made to the chopper and it took off about two hours later to return to MacArthur Airport.

No one was injured.
