SYOSSET - Some Syosset students got a chance Monday to learn from musical icon Billy Joel.

Joel shared stories at an event to help raise awareness and enrollment for the Long Island High School for the Arts in Syosset.

"Think about Long Island," Joel said. "So many comedians, actors and musicians came out of Long Island. It's a breeding ground of talent, and to not have a school like that doesn't make any sense to me at all."

Joel pledged $1 million from his foundation and also gave advice to students during a Q&A at the Tilles Center on the LIU Post campus.

He is also getting ready for his upcoming tour, he says.

"I'm playing stadiums, it's crazy," he said. "You don't think this would happen in your 60s. I am lucky enough to still be around."
